Oscar the Grouch Day!

I use to watch Sesame Street when I was a little girl and loved all the characters. Then when I had my first child she was all about Elmo but our favorite movie was The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland. We knew all the words and all the songs and grew to love Oscar the Grouch even more. Here is some information about this silly but special day: Oscar the Grouch Day is celebrated on June 1, which is also the birthday of Oscar the Grouch. He is a fictional character who lives in a trash can on “Sesame Street” with a green body and no visible nose. Oscar does not know what it means to have a happy birthday and believes that the best thing about birthdays is that you don’t have to celebrate them again for a whole year once they are gone. It was “Sesame Street” episode 3,866 that revealed that Oscar’s birthday is on June 1.

HOW TO CELEBRATE OSCAR THE GROUCH DAY

  1. Name your grouch To cope with the grumpy part of you, give it a name and validate it. It will help you distance yourself from the feeling. Negative thoughts are an essential part of our thought process but they don’t have to define us.

  2. Schedule grumpy time Dedicate some time to your inner grouch. Take five minutes and let it out. Allow yourself to complain and feel miserable, and you will feel better afterwards.

  3. Do something kind The best way to get the better of your inner grouch is by carrying out random acts of kindness. They don’t have to be huge. Taking a flower to a neighbor, or paying the ticket for the car behind you, and doing other similar little good deeds help a lot.

5 FACTS ABOUT OSCAR THE GROUCH THAT YOU DIDN’T KNOW

  3. A voice that is a grouch The voice of Oscar the Grouch was inspired by a Bronx taxi driver in whose taxi Carol Spinney was going to work one day.

  4. A grouch that is a waltz Oscar's signature song ‘I Love Trash’ is a waltz and is rated the third best song in the history of “Sesame Street” by Billboard magazine.

  5. A dream of Oscar According to “Sesame Street” head writer Jeff Moss, he dreamed up Oscar the Grouch after educators suggested that there should be a character that was not happy at all times.
